ABC of Wisconsin member makes appearance on "Ask This Old House"

You may see a familiar face on the national television show, "Ask This Old House" during this week's episode. That's because ABC member Larry Budiac of Budiac Plumbing, Inc., Mequon, was asked to participate in the shooting of an episode this past summer.

installing a gas line for the new instantaneous water heater.

"The experience was phenomenal," Budiac said. "It was a long day, but well worth it."

Budiac was contacted to do the show through a local supplier he works with. The project consisted of replacing a traditional tank water heater with an instantaneous one. Budiac was called to the home in advance to see if it was a good situation for an instantaneous water heater and if he was interested. He agreed to do it and now, several months later, he's on national television.

"I never thought I would be on TV. It was pretty neat," Budiac said.

Budiac appears on the show for a couple minutes with Richard Trethewey, the show's co-host and plumbing expert.

"It was interesting working with the 'Ask This Old House' talent. They were real professionals ... Really good ... A lot of fun to work with  ... A lot of jokes, but very talented, also."

His biggest surprise was how long the shooting took; 12 hours for a 15-minute segment. Now, he says he has a whole new perspective on what goes into these reality home improvement shows, while customers may have a skewed perspective.
"Customers want their bathrooms remodeled in a day," he said.

He says his company has generated some business has a result of his appearance on the show, but not before having fun with him, he said.

"Customers call wanting to talk with 'Mr. Hollywood.'"
