Respirable Crystalline Silica Construction Standard becomes enforceable September 23

Silica photoThe Respirable Crystalline Silica Construction Standard, becomes enforceable on September 23, 2017. The standard establishes a new, eight-hour time-weighted average Permissible Exposure Limit of 50 ug.m3, an action level of 25ug.m3 and a host of ancillary requirements. During the first 30 days of enforcement, OSHA will carefully evaluate good faith efforts taken by employers to meet the new silica standard. Please note: if, upon inspections it appears and employer is not making any efforts to comply, OSHA's inspection will not only include monitor for silica, but those employers will also be considered for citation.  (Read the latest OSHA memo).
