Fitzgerald named ABC of WI’s 2017 Legislator of the Year

MADISON, WI - Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin presented Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, with the 2017 Legislator of the Year Award on Wednesday, thanking him for his leadership on pro-construction initiatives during the 2017-18 legislative session. The award was presented by the ABC of Wisconsin Board of Directors at the association’s office in Madison. 303 honored for completing ABC of Wisconsin apprenticeship programs

WISCONSIN DELLS, WI – Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin celebrated the accomplishments of 303 professional craft workers during the 2018 Apprenticeship Graduation Banquet on Friday, May 11, at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.Ninety-six apprentices were on hand to be recognized for completing their apprenticeships before a record crowd of more than 500 apprentices, family members and friends. Wisconsin construction unemployment down 2.6 percent from March 2017

The March 2018 not seasonally adjusted (NSA) national construction unemployment rate was down 1 percent from March 2017, and estimated construction unemployment rates also fell in 37 states – including Wisconsin – on a year-over-year basis, according to an analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data released today by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Governor signs AB 745, opening adult apprenticeship to high school seniors

ASHWAUBENON, WI -- Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 745 into law today in Ashwaubenon. The bill, authored by Rep. Romaine Quinn (Barron) and State Senator Pat Testin (Stevens Point), will allow high school seniors to begin adult apprenticeship programs early, similar to high school students taking advanced placement (AP) courses for college credit.

“By increasing apprenticeship opportunities for high school students, we are opening the door for high school seniors to get a head start on their career in high demand areas,” said Governor Walker. Read the rest of entry »

ABC WI issues statement on Apprenticeship Ratio Bill signing

ABC of WI apprentice earns gold in national competition

Wisconsin apprentice Jacob Moody earned first place in the National Craft Championships in Long Beach, California. Construction employees and employers thank Legislature for addressing construction skills gap

ApprenticesGroups representing both construction employees and construction employers today applauded the Wisconsin State Legislature for helping address the construction skills gap by allowing high schoolers to participate in adult apprenticeship programs. Assembly Bill 745 authored by Rep. Romaine Quinn (Barron) and State Senator Pat Testin (Stevens Point) could shave up to six months off the length of an apprentice program, similar to advanced placement (AP) courses that allow high school students to earn college credit.
