ABC of Wisconsin SkillComp winners head to nationals in Florida

Apprentices from across the state came together last Friday for the ABC of Wisconsin Skill Competition, with the winners heading to Florida for the National Craft Championships in March. The event, which featured 30 individuals competing in a variety of construction trades, took place in West Bend, at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

ICYMI: Apprentices to showcase talent at competition

Apprentices from across Wisconsin will showcase their skills during a competition Friday in the town of Polk. The public is invited to watch as those skilled in carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and heat and frost insulating participate in Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin Apprentice Skill Competition. They will also compete in a written competition.

Governor Signs Construction Materials Tax-Exemption Bill

It is a victory 15 years in the making. On Wednesday, Gov. Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 227 (SB 227) into law. This new law will allow contractors to directly purchase construction materials on behalf of their tax-exempt clients without paying the sales tax.

What You Need to Know: UI Work Search Requirements for Seasonally Laid Off Employees

Traditionally, employees collecting Unemployment Insurance benefits who were expected to be recalled to work (seasonal employees) were exempt from certain requirements to conduct job searches (work search waivers).  However, effective June 14, 2015, new rules require employees who are expected to be recalled within a period of 8 weeks to obtain a waiver from the department in order to be exempt from the job search requirements.  Read the rest of entry »
