October is Proclaimed Careers in Construction Month in Wisconsin

A recent survey found that for the fourth year in a row, jobs for skilled trade workers are the hardest to fill, including those in the construction industry. To help highlight the personally and financially rewarding careers available in the trades,Wisconsin has proclaimed October as Careers in Construction Month.

Wisconsin Construction Unemployment Rate Improves Year-Over-Year

Wisconsin's construction unemployment rate continues to improve. From August 2015 to August 2016, the state's rate dropped from 6.8 percent to 4.9 percent, according to data released on Thursday by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

ABC of Wisconsin Apprentice Takes Gold Medal at National SkillsUSA Competition

After earning a gold medal at the SkillsUSA Wisconsin competition in April, Devin Kissinger made an even bigger splash on the national stage. Devin, an Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin apprentice and Steiner Electric employee, took first place in the college-level Industrial Motor Control competition at the nationwide SkillsUSA Championships held in Louisville, KY in late June.

Instructor of the Year Greg Phillips Highlights Apprenticeship in Radio Interview

Greg Phillips, an Electrical Instructor at Blackhawk Technical College, recently was named the Instructor of the Year by Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. After receiving the award, Phillips joined Ted Ehlen on Friday to discuss apprenticeship and the construction trades.

Scott Smith, a resident of Cottage Grove, WI, was named the 2016 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin Craft Professional of the Year at the 2016 Graduation Banquet on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Smith works for Faith Technologies, Inc. in Menasha, WI as an electrician.

ICYMI: ABC of Wisconsin Defends Right-to-Work Law

Dane County Judge William Foust deemed Wisconsin's right-to-work law unconstitutional in a court ruling that was released late Friday. Unions that filed the lawsuit argued that the law created an unconstitutional "taking" of property and Judge Foust agreed.

On Friday, Dane County Circuit Court Judge William Foust ruled Wisconsin’s right-to-work law is unconstitutional. Attorney General Brad Schimel has stated he will appeal the decision.
