MADISON, WI – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin Recruitment and Training Director Elizabeth Roddy was recognized Tuesday, April 24, with the Technology Literacy Award from SkillsUSA Wisconsin.
The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the 45th Annual SkillsUSA Wisconsin State Leadership and Skills Conference at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Nearly 1,600 middle and high school students from around the state were anticipated to participate in the two-day conference.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that serves teachers and students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
“The individual we are presenting this prestigious award to today has worked for many years at the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin,” said Elyse Asmus, president of SkillsUSA Wisconsin and a junior at Watertown High School, during the award presentation. “During that time, she has been an outspoken advocate for technology and engineering education, specializing in construction career pathways. During her time at ABC, she has also been the technical chairperson for (SkillsUSA Wisconsin’s) carpentry and electrical construction wiring competitions.
“It is because of this commitment to SkillsUSA and education that we are proud to present this award to Ms. Elizabeth Roddy,” Asmus added. “She is a leader in Wisconsin and is a true friend of our organization.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of Elizabeth and the contributions she has made to the recruitment of individuals to the construction trade,” said John Mielke, president of ABC of Wisconsin. “This award is symbolic of our organization’s commitment to addressing the skills gap in construction.”
Roddy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration for general management. She began working for ABC of Wisconsin in May 2003 as an education coordinator and was named recruitment and training coordinator in July 2013. She has been ABC’s recruitment and training director since June 2016.
In her current role, Roddy is responsible for recruiting new people to the construction trades, including promoting the trades to school-age students and school administration. She also creates and manages employee development classes.
