ABC of Wisconsin recognizes legislators with ‘Building Wisconsin’ award

MADISON, WI – Forty-nine Wisconsin legislators have been selected to receive the 2017 “Building Wisconsin” award, presented by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin, in recognition of their leadership on enacted legislation that benefits the state’s construction industry.

Construction employees and employers thank Legislature for addressing construction skills gap

ApprenticesGroups representing both construction employees and construction employers today applauded the Wisconsin State Legislature for helping address the construction skills gap by allowing high schoolers to participate in adult apprenticeship programs. Assembly Bill 745 authored by Rep. Romaine Quinn (Barron) and State Senator Pat Testin (Stevens Point) could shave up to six months off the length of an apprentice program, similar to advanced placement (AP) courses that allow high school students to earn college credit. Construction apprenticeship programs are typically three to five years in length. 

ABC of WI members testify on several workforce/apprenticeship bills

ABC of Wisconsin members appeared before the Assembly Committee on Workforce Development today to support three apprenticeship-related bills, including AB 745, relating to high school seniors being allowed to participate in adult apprenticeship programs; AB 734, relating to creating individual or corporate tax deduction for apprenticeship tuition; and AB 124, relating to the marketing of employment and training opportunities to University of Wisconsin System students who do not complete degrees.
