ABC of WI held its annual Skill Competition at the Park Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in
Classroom instructors and employers nominated the top ABC of WI apprentices from five construction crafts to compete in the competition. Thirty five apprentices competed in carpentry, electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning), plumbing, and sheet metal. Apprentices displayed their knowledge and skills through a two hour written examination and a four hour practical, hands on project. “The competition not only gives apprentices an arena to demonstrate their mechanical skills, but it also provides an excellent learning environment to enhance skills such as working under tight deadlines or scrutiny,” Skill Competition Committee Chair,
Winners were determined through scores on their written exam, practical competition and observance of industry and safety practices. The first place winner in each of the five trades will compete in the ABC National Craft Championship in
ABC of Wisconsin Construction Skill Competition takes a full year of planning by the Skill Competition Taskforce. It is made possible by ABC members and industry supporters. Technical support, equipment, and material for the practical skill competition were donated by ABC members. ABC members and industry supporters also provided sponsorships, safety equipment, tools, and volunteers to judge the competition. This event is truly a collaborative effort that showcases the best of the best.
