MADISON – Membership in the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin Chapter has reached an all-time high in 2018, with 881 merit contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and construction-related professionals renewing their memberships or joining the trade association.

ABC of Wisconsin also reached an all-time-best membership renewal rate of 92.32 percent in 2018.

“We are especially pleased to have reached this new milestone,” said John Mielke, president of ABC of Wisconsin. “This organization’s strength comes from its members, who provide the means for a wide range of relevant services, which in turn promote retention and growth.”

ABC of Wisconsin’s previous membership record was 880, which was set in 2000.

The Wisconsin chapter is the largest of 70 ABC chapters throughout the country. Nationwide, ABC represents more than 21,000 members who support the merit philosophy in construction, which stresses open competition, the free enterprise system, and rewarding workers and awarding projects based on talent, performance and quality.

ABC of Wisconsin was chartered in 1972 and began with a handful of members in the Fox Valley area. The chapter, now headquartered in Madison, has grown to a staff of 21 employees and offers several member services, networking and training opportunities and an apprenticeship program.

ABC of Wisconsin’s apprenticeship program also reached record high levels of participation this year, with 400 new contracted apprentices enrolled and more than 1,450 active participants working in 12 construction trades. ABC of Wisconsin’s apprenticeship program began in 1987.
