OCONOMOWOC – Nine Oconomowoc High School (OHS) seniors who are planning to pursue apprenticeship in the construction trades after graduation participated in an “Apprenticeship Signing Day” ceremony Wednesday morning in the school’s fieldhouse.
The ceremony – held as part of the OHS’ “Celebrate Your Future Week” – recognized students who gained work experience through youth apprenticeship programs during high school and who are signing contracts to become adult registered apprentices.
“We are excited to see the students who will be continuing their education through the registered apprenticeship program,” said Leigh Emrick, director of apprenticeship for Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin. “These students are well on their way to having amazing careers in well-paying, in-demand fields.”

Apprenticeship signing days are intended to reflect athletic signing days, where high school athletes commit to a university. In this case, apprenticeship signing days feature a written registered apprenticeship contract between ABC of Wisconsin, the apprentice, the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards and the employer.
