Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin endorsed incumbent Gov. Scott Walker for re-election today during a campaign event at Tri City Glass & Door in Appleton. Walker is seeking his third term in the Nov. 6 election. ABC of Wisconsin – representing 870 merit contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, manufacturers and construction-related professionals throughout the state – endorsed Walker because of his work to address the skilled labor gap and grow the economy.
ABC of Wisconsin President John Mielke touted Gov. Scott Walker's record on apprenticeship in response to a letter to the editor in The Daily Reporter in Milwaukee. Pathways for construction apprenticeship have continuously expanded under Gov. Scott Walker’s leadership, he wrote, noting Walker signed into law a bill that makes adult registered apprenticeship available to qualified high school seniors who want to get a head start on their careers. It’s similar to high school students taking advanced-placement courses for college (dual) credit. Gov. Walker also signed a measure to change the skilled-worker-to-apprentice ratios to 1:1, which eliminates convoluted state rules and brings Wisconsin in line with many other states with similar ratios.
