About this Class: Construction documents rule the construction process from start to finish. Participants will understand the types of documents they are likely to work with and the importance of developing a proactive process of obtaining, processing, and maintaining documents. This session will break down documentation requirements for an entire project.

Who should attend: This program is for those who are on the project management team, including project supervisors, project coordinators, assistant project managers, and newer project managers. Note: This is a basic course and is not designed for experienced project managers.

The fee is $299 per person


1. Documentation Stages – Participants will understand how to read and work with various construction documents.  This session will review project stages and identify documents within each stage, starting with planning. Participants will learn methods of managing documents and how to work with others in the delivery and management teams to improvement document flow methods.

2. Planning Documents – This module will review the CSI MasterFormat® outline. Participants will review different contract documents and will identify components of contract documents including SOW and cost breakdowns. Participants will also differentiate between general and special conditions.

3. Project Documents – This session will review how to generate and maintain daily logs and reports. Participants will identify the important of shop drawings in the construction process and will review various submittal documents in the context of the submittal process.

4. Project Closeout – Participants will review change orders, back-charge forms, as-built drawing, punch lists and other documents related to the closeout process.

This is course 2 of the 6-course Project Coordinator Program, but can be taken as a stand-alone course.

    Gretchen Bockenhauer

    Gretchen grew up in the construction industry with her family construction business, She graduated UW-Platteville with a B.S. in Industrial Technology Management in an emphasis in Building Construction Management. After graduation, Gretchen worked at IIW, P.C. as Construction Services Team Leader and managed DOT projects in the tri-state area. Gretchen is currently serving as Co-Program Coordinator in the Construction Management Program and a lecturer in the Construction Management and Construction Safety Management Program. Likewise, she is the Construction Management Association Student Organization Advisor and is the ABC Construction Management Competition Advisor.
