Ascension Spirit Hangar
This 18,300-square-foot airport hangar allowed Ascension to expand operations, perform aircraft maintenance and address medical emergencies. It includes administrative offices, conference rooms, sleeping quarters, kitchen/lounge area, a fixed and rotor wing hangar and a four-bay ambulance garage. Heavy and massive free-standing hangar and ambulance bay doors required a crane for careful and safe installation. While the project never shut down due to the pandemic, many Ellis Construction employees and subcontractors were out for weeks. A security fence was required immediately adjacent to the project perimeter, but as walls were built, those became new barriers with limited access for security. The hanger was ready for construction in Stevens Point prior to a decision to build it 20 miles north in Mosinee. The re-planning and project considerations required considerable time, but the client still expected a fast-track completion, which Ellis Construction delivered.
