Friede & Associates completely re-themed and refreshed the historic Chula Vista Resort over a two-year period to minimize the impact on both customer and convention business. Chula undertook a multi-million-dollar facelift and renovation of their north and south towers and public spaces. Chula embarked on this historic rebranding to fit into time periods that did not interfere with high-occupancy periods. The work was done one floor at a time to hallways and guest rooms and required daily communication with Chula operation staff, so the project team was aware of higher occupancy areas. The project included removal of all log wainscoting and installation of all new wood trim and bathroom solid surfaces. Exposed timbers and southwestern graphics were to be replaced by a two-toned exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS) that matched the colors and look of the condominiums.
