Miller Motors
The Miller Motors project converted an unused 12,500-square-foot building into 1,200 square feet of finished office space and 11,300 square feet for auto body repair. H.J. Faust was asked to design/build the HVAC systems. The shop portion consisted of installing 180 feet of tube heaters totaling 720,000 BTU, three commercial unit heaters totaling 375,000 BTU and a modulating makeup air unit. The tube heaters posed a significant challenge, avoiding all other equipment from the other specialty trades and maintaining clearance for vehicles entering the building. Because of the effects of chemicals used in auto body work, air exchange was a priority. The contractor installed a 6,000 CFM exhaust fan that has multiple inlets, both high and low for some chemicals rising to the ceiling and some falling to the floor. The client was looking for a cost-effective way to properly heat and cool the office area, so a two-zoned, commercial-grade split system was installed.
