Smith Residence

This 2,800-square-foot residence near Mount Horeb features an industrial feel with concrete floors, extensive glass storefront and exposed ductwork. It was completed in five months, despite losing subcontractors due to delays in obtaining zoning and highway permits, extensive rains and the pandemic. When the project got underway, weather and site access limited progress. Progress was continually impacted by delivery schedules and material shortages and the growing fear of the impact of the pandemic. Initial plans to have manfactured wall sections built offsite were scrapped, so Friede & Associates carpentry crews built the entire building on site. The home features in-floor radiant heating system tubes, colored concrete floors throughout, tongue and groove wood ceilings, exposed HVAC ductwork and a cast-in-place concrete fireplace and chimney that will be a major focal point for years to come.
