The Edge is a mixed-use, 53-unit apartment building near Lake Monona. The depth of the parking garage and high water table required dewatering during earth retention, excavation, and concrete operations. The below-grade waterproofing system is a vital element that demanded rigorous quality control. The subsurface work was complicated by extreme cold, snow, and frost. The tight location made site logistics a challenge and required just-in-time deliveries of materials. Stevens Construction used a self-erecting tower crane, with a swing just inches from the adjacent building, for the underground and elevated concrete deck work, wall panels and floor trusses on upper floors. Contaminated soils and extracted water required testing and special handling.
