The James is a new, 12-story, premier, student apartment building on the UW-Madison campus. North American Mechanical, Inc. installed 14,400 linear feet of piping, 113,000 pounds of sheet metal and more than 400 heat pump units. The contractor used CAD coordination to streamline production services and identify and resolve any foreseen issues, such as the required relocation of mechanical equipment. Working downtown required off-site storage of materials, but this gave North American Mechanical, Inc. the opportunity to streamline the testing and fabrication of equipment in their warehouse and make adjustments before installation. Creative thinking allowed this project to be completed on time and under budget.
