Staying Merit Shop

You chose the merit shop approach for a variety of reasons. Maybe it’s because you believe open competition creates the best outcomes. Maybe you wanted to be rewarded for your hard work or wanted to be able to reward your employees for their individual contributions to the team. Perhaps you like the culture of cross-training in order to get the job done.

Regardless of why you chose to be a merit shop (and you may have all the reasons stated above, and more!), it requires vigilance to stay a merit shop.

Contractors can face all kinds of threats to their system, like salting, union organizing, picketing and more. Those threats can be mitigated by maintaining a healthy work and team culture, understanding the law, and ensuring you comply with workplace regulations.

ABC recognizes the need for members to fully understand and share their training on merit shop issues. Beginning January 7, members can register and attend our “Staying Merit Shop” webinar series. The series will be held virtually, but will only be available for live attendance.  For five weeks, experts will help you navigate the future of the merit shop and recognize areas where you can improve your company’s status.

The weeks include a panel on building a healthy culture, attorneys will discuss Davis-Bacon & Prevailing Wage compliance, union activity and securing your job sites.

Register now, and plan to join us, virtually, for this important series.
