The Grove Childcare Center

Derrick Companies completed the design-build construction of an 8,540 sq. ft. childcare facility designed to support early education through safe, functional, and inspiring spaces. Built with wood-framed construction, the building features 10 classrooms, a commercial kitchen with café, restrooms, offices, laundry area, and a large indoor playground. Outdoor learning is encouraged with an outdoor classroom and playground, while STEM-themed decorations and customized finishes in classrooms and common areas enhance the educational environment. The $1,746,590 project was delivered under a cost-plus contract with a Guaranteed Maximum Price. Groundbreaking occurred October 15, 2024, and the facility was turned over to the owner April 24, 2025, reflecting an efficient schedule. Derrick Companies self-performed 15% of the work, including installation of doors, frames, hardware, and other accessories. A full-time superintendent provided daily oversight to ensure quality and coordination. Subcontractor participation was strong, with nearly every trade partner coming from Merit Shop companies in Western Wisconsin. The successful collaboration and quality workmanship resulted in a facility that combines safety, innovation, and practicality, offering children and staff an exceptional environment to learn, play, and grow.
