For nearly 30 years, Don Moen has dedicated his career to one mission: ensuring construction workers return home safely to their families each day. As the first Safety Director for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin (ABC Wisconsin), Moen built the association’s safety program from the ground up, growing it into a team of five safety professionals who now provide training and support to more than 1,100 member companies across the state.
On October 8, The Daily Reporter recognized Moen as Safety Professional of the Year. He accepted the award at their banquet, held at the Jan Serr Studio in Milwaukee.

“Don built the programs that make ABC members safe. He not only trains our teams, but he’s spent decades helping us connect with other safety professionals across the state. His influence is unmatched, and we have better safety programs because of his work,” shared Jerry Daniels, V.P. and Safety Director (retired), Daniels Construction.
“Don’s leadership has impacted thousands of skilled workers and contractors, and countless job sites. His unwavering commitment to protecting workers, advancing safety education, and fostering a culture where everyone returns home safely each day has made a lasting impact on our member companies,” said Kelly Tourdot, President of ABC Wisconsin. “We celebrate his recognition as Safety Professional of the Year.”
In addition to his safety focus, Don also leads ABC’s Human Resources Committee, and ensures that companies have access to the training, legal help and resources needed to recruit and retain skilled workers. His work with HR includes developing the HR+ Business Development conference that provides annual education to human resources professionals in the construction industry.
Moen lives in Evansville with his wife Karla.
