ABC of Wisconsin supports UI work search waiver during pandemic

MADISON, Feb. 11, 2021 — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin President John Mielke issued the following comments regarding the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announcement that it will extend the work search waiver, as the deadline was set to expire Saturday, Feb. 13:

“Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin, representing nearly 1,000 employers who are literally building Wisconsin, has been very supportive of work search requirements for those on unemployment insurance. However, our organization supports the work search waiver announced today by Gov. Evers’ administration because it is a small, but smart, part of the overall solution to end the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic,” ABC of Wisconsin President John Mielke said.

“Work searches currently pose a significant health risk for both UI recipients and employers. Everyone acknowledges that regardless of the cause, the Department of Workforce Development is having difficulty processing UI claims in a timely manner. To add the tracking of work search requirements now will only delay getting resources to those who need it.”
