Milwaukee- He’s built coalitions to support common goals, established ABC as a top lobbyist among construction trade associations, and spends his time on the road meeting with ABC members and legislators across the state. John Schulze is a dedicated advocate for merit shops, and has elevated the industry through his government relations work.
The Daily Reporter recognized his efforts with a C-Suite Leadership Award. Schulze accepted the award at their banquet, held March 26 at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. The banquet honors individuals in the construction industry who provide expert leadership and advocacy for the profession.
Schulze joined ABC in 2014, after working at the State Capitol, and leading government relations work for state agencies. His focus has been to champion Wisconsin’s merit shops, and remove barriers to open competition in the state.
“John’s ability to connect with stakeholders across disciplines and perspectives has strengthened ABC of Wisconsin’s credibility and influence, ensuring that the voice of merit-shop contractors is consistently heard and respected in key policy discussions,” said Jessie Cannizzaro, president of Milestone Plumbing, and past board chair of ABC Wisconsin.
Schulze’s legislative wins include establishing right to work laws, eliminating prevailing wage, and protecting labor agreement neutrality. Just as important are the issues that don’t grab the headlines, for example his work to streamline sales and use taxes for construction companies and leading the charge to reform Wisconsin’s apprenticeship ratios. He will not be outworked and tirelessly advocates for the construction industry.
“John’s work reflects not only technical expertise, but also sound judgment and an unwavering commitment to ethical advocacy,” said Steve Klessig, V.P. of Architecture and Engineering and Keller, Inc., past ABC board chair and member of the legislative committee. “Decision-makers trust John because he approaches every engagement with honesty, preparation, and respect for the public interest.”
Jeff Disher, President at Disher Electric, and another past-ABC Board chair and legislative committee member agreed. “John brings a deep understanding of law, policy, and the real-world impacts those decisions have on businesses and the construction industry as a whole.”
Schulze is respected both in the ABC world, and at the State Capitol. He works with both sides of the aisle to further policies that will allow the construction industry to prosper. ABC is proud to celebrate his c-suite award, and recognizes his excellence in government relations.
