ABC of Wisconsin is pleased to offer a five-part web series on human resources fundamentals through Zoom for members this summer. The sessions, presented by ABC of Wisconsin member firms, will run on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. beginning June 25, 2026. Attendees can register for any of the sessions for $35 each or all five for $150.

Session 4: Mental Health Accommodations in the Workplace

Presented by Tom O’Day, Attorney – Husch Blackwell, LLP

This session will explore employers’ obligations when responding to an employee’s request for a mental health accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Wisconsin laws. Presenters will discuss key regulations and cases outlining employer responsibilities and best practices for accommodating employees facing mental health challenges.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify best practices for handling accommodation requests, including for intermittent leave, given the unique role of many of construction industry professionals.
• Understand employers’ responsibilities to accommodate a request for accommodation for mental health reasons.
• Appreciate the complexities of the ADA and FMLA as they pertain to accommodations and leaves of absence.
• Learn key takeaways from relevant regulations and case law to mitigate risk of litigation.
