About the Project

The Northeast Wisconsin Zoo (NEW Zoo) in Green Bay needed an upgrade to its Penguin Exhibit. Rhode Brothers upgraded the life support filtration system (LSS) for the African penguin habitat. This state-of-the-art system enhances the living conditions of endangered penguins, meeting the standards set by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Key challenges included working in a small space, managing a winter timeline and integrating new technology such as an ozone generator. Using 3D CAD, the team optimized the layout of the equipment, ensuring efficient use of space while maintaining functionality. The project emphasized quality control, value engineering, and productivity through innovative scheduling and communication strategies. Completed ahead of schedule and under budget, the new system has significantly improved water quality, positively impacting the penguins’ well-being. This successful project underscores the team’s commitment to excellence, safety and sustainability.
