WDS Construction and its philanthropic division, WDS Works, worked with Crossroads Christian Reformed Church to modernize the Madison-based church. The renovation of more than 7,000 square feet of the 12,000-square-foot church converted its large sanctuary to a smaller, more intimate room for services with an accessible stage and updated nursery, kitchen, multi-purpose fellowship area, welcome center and youth area. Working with a committee of volunteers and volunteer subcontractors created a schedule that was difficult to manage. The church’s existing structure plans were not accurate, which caused several design changes after construction began. WDS filled in the sanctuary bowl-style seating with 30 inches of compacted gravel and blocks of structural foam to create a level concrete floor throughout the new sanctuary. New sanctuary wiring and controls were installed along with new drywall, existing walls, and patches and repairs throughout the building.
