Unusually wet spring weather in both 2024 and 2025 resulted in about two months of project delays. To expedite the schedule, Zignego Company, Inc. set up a temporary concrete batch plant within the project limits in both 2024 and 2025, significantly reducing trucking and accessing the work zone from IH 43. Furthermore, Zignego worked with its subcontractors and recycled about 75% of the old roadway to use as the aggregates for the new lanes of IH 43. While this knocked off weeks of time, Zignego identified that the construction of a box culvert across IH 43 would need to be done via nightly lane closures and a temporary barrier wall to ensure safe passage for the traveling public on the northbound lanes in 2024. Even this was still not enough to make up the full two months of time lost due to weather, so Zignego scheduled multiple concrete crews to work simultaneously in the work zone to complete the concrete pavement, concrete barrier wall, electrical signals, and all restoration work required. While similar projects in this IH 43 corridor experienced similar challenges, Zignego made up about 700% more time than adjacent projects!
