About the Project

National Heritage Academies, a nationwide charter school organization, selected Kraemer Brothers for their first Wisconsin school. Located on the outskirts of Waukesha, Mill Creek Academy started construction in August of 2022 and finished construction in June of 2023, capping off an aggressive 10-month schedule. Featuring over 30 classrooms, multiple conference rooms, student support rooms, and teacher offices, this K-8 charter school includes a gymnasium in the center of the building that doubles as a cafeteria. The design of the building is separated into four wings holding various grade levels, connected in the middle through the gymnasium. The exterior facade includes light tan fiber cement siding accented by brown-colored siding, with stone masonry and white trim. The canopies feature exposed cedar trusses, beams, and columns with a stone base, providing an inviting entrance to the building. Energy-efficient light fixtures are installed throughout the building, and a video intercom system is placed at the entryway for managing access to the building. With a high-water table in this location, multiple bio retention basins and ponds were constructed to hold excess water and for the neighboring wildlife to use.
