Expanding the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish in Hartland, Wisconsin into an architectural landmark demanded innovative solutions and strong team collaboration, ultimately resulting in a remarkable success. The project, built by Corporate Contractors Inc. (CCI) and designed by Zimmerman Architectural Studios, aimed to create a traditional yet energy-efficient 33,800 sq. ft. church that reflects the parish’s Italian heritage. The Romanesque-style addition features a striking domed rotunda, a 100-ft bell tower and intricate Italian-inspired elements like the Carrara marble altar. The church’s vibrant interior includes a choir loft, ornate hand-painted murals, restored stained-glass windows and other beautifully designed religious-themed artistic elements. Safety and quality were prioritized throughout the project. Despite challenges like poor soil conditions, extreme weather, and COVID-19-related labor shortages, CCI implemented solutions like phased construction to maintain the existing church and school’s operations, installed scaffolding for complex structural work and took extra precautions to manage noise, dust and site safety. The build-team’s dedication to craftsmanship, collaboration and safety all led to the successful completion of a project that enhances the church’s role in serving its growing congregation and the broader community. The new church stands as a symbol of pride and devotion, fulfilling both spiritual and architectural aspirations.
