Nestled between the popular Oak Leaf Trail and the Milwaukee River in the village of Shorewood lies the Oaks of Shorewood, an executive 55-plus senior living apartment complex featuring high-end finishes, huge floor plans, and brilliant views of downtown Milwaukee. Building on a very tight fill site with one access point was no easy task. A temporary road was built out of crane mats and rock to allow for access to the 550-foot long site. The building itself sits on top of rammed aggregate piers. Concrete production and scheduling was tough, with basement foundation walls measuring a total of a half mile. The massive pitched roof system is impressive, as is the 200,000 gallon underground detention system installed by Stevens.
