About the Project

Holtz Builders, Inc. built eight, new, 3,910-square-foot treehouse cabins that each accommodate up to 22 people. These three-level, mountain-modern design cabins feature five bedrooms plus an attached treehouse inspired by “The Little Rascals.” Breaking ground in the winter, sandy soils and limited laydown areas heightened challenges for maneuvering equipment on the steep, snowy hillsides. The initial nine-month timeline was condensed into 7.5 months. The elevation of each cabin varied, so equipment staging evolved to site-specific grades. With a 17/12 pitched roof, our field crew secured the 52 mono-trusses to a center ridge beam using scaffolding and a boom lift. Since the structural steel needed to support the treehouses was delayed, the treehouses were built separately from the main structures. To coordinate accurate placement of the anchor bolts to the steel column supports, a total robotic station was used in conjunction with a clocking plan. Completed cabins were turned over to the Wilderness in stages, adding another element of logistical management to ensure guest safety. After a dishwasher supply line flooded a cabin just before turnover, our team expedited the next cabin and completed the project six weeks ahead of the already condensed schedule.
