Young Blood Beer Company/Plain Spoke Cocktail Company

The renovation of a historic building in Madison into a new brewery and cocktail lounge required not only a high amount of creativity, but thanks to a pandemic, also one with total attention to everyone’s health, safety and well being. This project added brewing operations to the basement level and a street-level tap room for the Young Blood Beer Company, created a space for up to 60 guests on the second floor for the Plain Spoke Cocktail Company and moved existing office tenants to a remodeled third floor space in an adjacent building. Access to the site downtown was limited, with the city allowing the use of only two parking spaces out front. The project required significant selective demolition and structural improvements. Floor joists on the main floor were cut to crate a new opening to allow for the removal of everything in the basement and to create what would become a signature viewing area of the brewery operations.
