Contractor planning and preparation for Coronavirus in the workplace

From ABC National and ABC Wisconsin

ABC is closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and how the virus could impact our workplaces and communities.

Events & education

At this time, ABC of Wisconsin has not postponed any member events or education. If anything is postponed or cancelled, chapter staff will communicate directly with all registrants for their respective events.

As of now, apprenticeship classes will continue as usual. ABC has heard the technical colleges may be making some announcements soon. If/when classes are postponed or cancelled, apprenticeship staff will communicate directly with employer trainers and apprentices.

Resources for members

ABC National has resources that could be beneficial for business owners and HR professionals in developing action plans to deal with the situation.

ABC National’s Legal Counsel, Littler Mendelson P.C, has established a Coronavirus (COVID-19) Task Force to prepare the following documents to help address some of the most common questions you and your team may be receiving, including OSHA Legal Standards, Leave and Sick Pay Issues, Furloughs and Layoffs, and Recommended Workplace Practices:

Of particular interest, please note questions 15 & 16 in the FAQ document, which specifically outline the impacts of quarantines and shutdowns on unemployment benefits and worker’s compensation obligations for those who contract COVID-19 through exposure while working.

In addition, the CDC has several resources available on its website, including information on symptoms, prevention and treatment, situation updates in the United States and abroad, and specific information for communities, schools and businesses.
