This web series is designed for anyone in construction interested in expanding their knowledge base from people who have unique experiences in the industry. Expert leaders share knowledge across a variety of topics based on years of work in construction. This is an education series not just for women but for all those who want to make change within the industry environment to support the current workers, and recruit and retain the next generation.

Stay in control, and on top of your cost forecasts.  This interactive presentation will discuss what to review, as you learn the best practices for forecasting job costs throughout the life cycle of a project.

November 16 – Gretchen Bockenhauer, Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor: Construction Management, UW Platteville
Conflict Resolution in Construction
Conflicts on the construction site are a common occurrence. Multiple stakeholders have different opinions and interpretations on how things are supposed to be done. Those differing opinions often lead to conflicts. Gretchen will discuss how to deal with the situations that cause conflict within construction teams as well as how to diffuse tense situations. Gretchen will outline the steps to resolving conflict by addressing the issue early, managing your emotions, and using your active listening skills that will help you strengthen relationships and in turn, achieve successful projects.

Creating the BEST Merit Shop Culture
Company culture can be one of the reasons people are attracted to your company and why they stay. Being able to communicate and actively promote the merit shop culture can be difficult. Holly will discuss how she and her team have cultivated a culture that creates a sense of belonging and community. She will share how her organization protects this culture by encouraging feedback from her staff through routine check-ins and providing opportunities that truly support and foster the team environment.

    Denita Schreier

    WDS Construction

    Denita Schreier, CMA CCIFP, has been in the construction industry since 1995. Her career started as a regional controller for the Pennsylvania office of an ENR top 300 contractor, eventually being promoted to corporate controller over four regional offices. In 2005, she started her own consulting practice, helping construction companies make better use of their financial and project management software, preparing financial statements, creating process efficiencies and improving job cost reporting. In 2013, she was hired as CFO for WDS Construction, which later that year added a development arm, JCW Development. Earlier this year, Schreier was promoted to executive vice president over both companies. She is currently Vice President of the Madison CFMA chapter, and an ABC of Wisconsin Board Member.
