ABC of Wisconsin announces November election endorsements

MADISON, Nov. 4, 2022 — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin is endorsing Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate, Tim Michels for Governor, and Derrick Van Orden for U.S. Congress.

In endorsing Sen. Ron Johnson, ABC of Wisconsin President John Mielke noted that many Wisconsin ABC members and small businesses are LLCs and other pass-through entities.

“Senator Johnson fought to make sure that all businesses – not just Fortune 500 companies listed on the stock exchange — were treated the same under the Trump tax cuts,” Mielke said. “Now, Senator Johnson is being attacked for getting this done, but Ron did it because it was the right thing to do. That willingness to make the tough decisions is as example of why ABC of Wisconsin supported Ron Johnson in 2010 and 2016 and will do so in 2022.”

The opportunity to elect someone who understands the building industry is one of many reasons for supporting Tim Michels, according to ABC of Wisconsin Board Chair Jim Bunkelman of Royal Construction, Eau Claire.

“Each and every day Tim Michels has literally built Wisconsin and worked on addressing the construction skills gap,” Bunkelman said.

If elected, Michels has committed to signing into law every bill that Governor Evers’ vetoed, which would include reforms to DSPS’s dysfunctional commercial plan review (AB 152), tax deduction of apprenticeship tuition (SB 125) and the elimination of the personal property tax (AB 191).

After more than two decades of incumbent Ron Kind voting against free enterprise and merit contractors, Mielke said Derrick Van Orden will be a refreshing change for the contractors that call western Wisconsin home.

“Not only did Derrick Van Orden score 100% on the ABC survey, he also made the time to meet with ABC members and hear their ideas for making the federal government work for Wisconsin.”
