OSHA Still Operational During Federal Government Shutdown

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is operating as normal during the partial federal government shutdown, according to the agency’s local director.

Chad Greenwood, OSHA’s Madison office area director, shared the news during ABC of Wisconsin’s Safety Committee meeting on Jan. 16 at the Stevens Construction Yard Training Office in Cottage Grove. He said the Department of Labor, under which OSHA operations, is currently being funded by a spending bill Congress approved in September 2018.

“We’re running as normal,” Greenwood said. “Our staff is all working, we’re still out doing presentations, inspections and everything. The Department of Labor is funded.”

The federal government shutdown began Dec. 22, 2018 and continues as Congress and President Donald Trump spar over funding for a wall on the border between the United States and Mexico.
